INTERVENTION: DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION SERVICES CENTER (DISC)
History of professional NGO movement has same age (barely 5 decades) as that of democracy – its birth and rise in the third world countries. Nonetheless, in these five decades, growth of the movement as a specialized service sector has been massive. NGOs have emerged as an important social arm of democratic societies – forum for people’s initiatives for integral social development the world over.
The nineties have brought in an era of close partnership between people, Government and the NGOs. Demand made on the sector has witnessed a steep rise in recent years. Monitoring federal fund for development by the NGOs has been gaining momentum.
Nevertheless, NGOs in India suffer from many weaknesses and limitations (more so in the Northeast), the chief drawback being acute lack of professionals managing professional situations professionally.
Development Information Services Center (DISC) is an effort to add professional culture to the working of people’s development initiatives (NGOs and others) and also to support, promote and sustain grass root NGOs committed to social development.

To support the weaker sections in a community – disabled, disadvantageously placed i.e., women, children etc.
